Interview with the Pilates Instructor Lili Viola.

We got the chance to do a feature with the lovely Lili Viola who inspires women to move.

She claims that according to her, a beautiful body is a body that obeys what the mind tells it to do, regardless of the difficulty of the task at hand. We could not agree more.

1. WHO IS LILI VIOLA?

I am a wife, mother, studio owner and classical Pilates teacher in Toronto, Canada. I have 3 children ages 19, 16 and 13, and a 7 year old dog who’s like the baby of the family.

2. WHAT IS YOUR LIFE MOTTO?

Don’t let fear get in the way of you pursuing your dreams. A second motto would be: “If I’m in, I’m all in!”

3. WHAT ARE YOU EXTRA CURIOUS ABOUT RIGHT NOW?

I’m curious about the natural Circadian rhythm of the body and how it, respecting it, can help heal the body. Intermittent fasting and autophagy is a big part of this.

4. WHAT IS A BEAUTIFUL BODY TO YOU?

A body that obeys what the mind tells it to do, regardless of the difficulty of the task at hand. There is nothing more impressive to me than a body that will bend to the will of the mind.

5. WHAT IS PILATES TO YOU?

Pilates is a well designed system of movement that restores complete balance, that relaxes the mind and body and enables one to move through life with ease.

6. WHAT IS THE PERFECT PILATES OUTFIT?

One that does not ride up or down on the body while one is moving. An outfit that makes the wearer feel unencumbered and confident. An outfit that showcases the lines of the body and allows its skin to breathe.

7. WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE PILATES MOVES?

I love them all, but lately I am intent on correcting the imbalances that get in the way of me doing some of the more advanced work. Star on the Reformer or Wunda are my work in progress moves.

8. IN YOUR OPINION, WHY IS PILATES SUCH A GOOD WORKOUT?

It targets all of the body’s needs: strength, flexibility, balance, cardiovascular endurance, joint stability, mindfulness, it has it all. And on top of that, it can improve all other activities/workouts/sports.

9. WHAT CAN ONE EXPECT WHEN PRACTICING PILATES AT YOUR STUDIO?

With 3 floors and 3000 square feet of space and the complete line of apparatus, you can expect to get a very thorough workout in which no body part will be left unattended. We also have a wonderful team of talented and dedicated teachers who are passionate about Pilates and will provide you with a wonderful and body transforming experience.

10. WHAT IS POWER TO YOU?

Power is knowing the source and tapping into that. Physical power is not leaking energy and preserving it to move efficiently and effortlessly. In life, power is knowing your why, your source of happiness and not allowing outside distractions pull you away from that source.

11. ANY UPCOMING PILATES EVENTS IN 2019?

YES!! In March, Gratz is coming to Toronto to present me with an archive reformer. I’ll be hosting a community class with Gratz’ attendance on March 16. I’ll also be presenting a workshop that same day on how Movement Heals. Sharing personal case studies of clients who have brought healing and life into their bodies despite various chronic conditions, illnesses, injuries or other setbacks. This is inspired by Joseph Pilates’ quote: “Change happens through movement, and movement heals”. I hope some of you will be able to join me! If not, be sure to follow me and Gratz, as we will be posting highlights of events leading up to that day, including a social media takeover by me!
