Pilates Friend Feature – Interview with Pilates instructor Anna Mora, Netherlands

PEBBLES works together with premium Pilates studios and Pilates advocates to inspire women to be in charge of their own movement. To continue their never fading urge to be on the move. We got the chance to do a feature with the lovely Anna Mora who inspires women to move. At her Amsterdam studio she offers an environment with a high level of personal attention, in which people can take distance from their hectic daily life and focus on their (physical) desires and needs

1. WHO IS ANNA MORA?
Anna Mora discovered her passion for dance and movement at a young age. I was a classical ballerina and danced professionally at “Het National Ballet” and “Compania Nacional de Danza de Mexico”. When I got injured Pilates and Gyrotonics helped me to recover. 
Studio Annamora was founded in 2005 with the idea of offering an environment with a high level of personal attention, in which people can take distance from their hectic daily life and focus on their (physical) desires and needs.

2. WHAT IS YOUR LIFE MOTTO?
Movement can help you find balance in your life and heal you.

3. WHAT ARE YOU EXTRA CURIOUS ABOUT RIGHT NOW?
As the first studio in Amsterdam to offer Pilates OOV classes I am curious to see how much the OOV can do for people and what people learn from it. I personally think it’s great!

4. WHAT IS A BEAUTIFUL BODY TO YOU?
When the outside reflects the inside.

5. WHAT IS PILATES TO YOU?
Pilates is a method that continues to surprise me in how many possibilities the body has to heal itself. The effect Pilates has on the mental component of healing process. Breathing and connecting to the breath are an essential part in this.

6. WHAT IS THE PERFECT PILATES OUTFIT?
Something that makes you feel comfortable while moving, made from a light & breathable material.

7. WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE PILATES MOVES?
Definitely these ones on the reformer: Feet in straps, Bridge, Swan, Mermaid.

8. IN YOUR OPINION, WHY IS PILATES SUCH A GOOD WORKOUT?
Because the core is the centre of our body, working on the core connects the trunk to the limbs in an efficient way, which is the key to good posture and healthy locomotion.

9. WHAT CAN ONE EXPECT WHEN JOINING YOUR STUDIO?
At Studio Annamora we combine a team of highly specialised trainers with a welcoming atmosphere and customised and approach.
Our passion is to pass on what we call “The Joy of Moving”.

10. WHAT IS POWER TO YOU?
When I think of power, I think of empowerment. I see it as my mission to empower people’s lives through movement. When I succeed in passing on the joy of moving, and people feel empowered, I am happy!

11. ANY UPCOMING PILATES EVENTS?
One of our biggest workshop success of 2018 was “Master the Mat”, where we dive deep into the 34 mat exercises as designed by Joseph Pilates. We are looking forward to having a sequel of that.
As always we will continue to develop cross-overs between Pilates and other movement methods so stay tuned for new classes!
