1. WHO IS ULRIKE ZACHERL?
I’m a Pilates teacher and studio owner in Berlin Kreuzberg. I grew up in the countryside and moved to Berlin in my early twenties. Back then, I worked at a fine dining restaurant and later the field of arts and galleries. Then my passion for Pilates became my profession. Now, I’m a host, teacher, team leader and in love with my job as a business woman.
2. WHAT IS YOUR LIFE MOTTO?
My life motto is to just breathe. I believe in the balance between doing and not doing. The balance between everyday tasks, projects, social life and the opposite of being in the moment, enjoying nature or simply being in the pure moment of movement.
3. WHAT ARE YOU EXTRA CURIOUS ABOUT RIGHT NOW?
Right now, I’m extra curious about our new Cadillac machine and it’s placement in the winter garden of the studio. The beauty of this new setting inspires me a lot. My teaching of pure Pilates.
4. WHAT IS A BEAUTIFUL BODY TO YOU?
A beautiful body is not about weight, size, shape, age or gender. A healthy, balanced body is beautiful. It goes a long with the mind and soul of a person. It’s the way you walk, talk, move and your posture.
5. WHAT IS PILATES TO YOU?
Pilates is my passion. It’s like a drug. I’m addicted to movement and the characteristic of the mental challenge of Pilates. It’s the mind itself that shapes the body, Joseph Pilates said. This is what keeps me going in my personal practice, as in my teaching. Pilates works likes a science that is a never ending field of exploring. When students progress, Pilates is like the language we’ve chosen to explore, body awareness-simply is a way to feel good, stay strong and flexible.
6. WHAT IS THE PERFECT PILATES OUTFIT?
The perfect Pilates outfits suits perfectly. Next to the pattern and style is the material, so ideally, form und function“ go together. In this case, I prefer simply black.
7. WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE PILATES MOVES?
My favorite Pilates positions are in exercises like Roll Up, Short Spine Massage-articulating moves. I also love the extension of the spine in Down Stretch on the Reformer, Swan on the mat or with the Spine Corrector. I also love Ballet Stretches on the High Ladder Barrel or Half Hanging Pull-ups on the Cadillac.
8. IN YOUR OPINION, WHY IS PILATES SUCH A GOOD WORKOUT?
Pilates is such a good workout because it is good for everything, the body, mind and soul. Pilates lengthens and strengthens the body. As it needs concentration, will and desire to do, Pilates is mentally challenging for the mind. Pilates is a good workout as it makes one happy to move one hour with flow and control.
9.WHAT CAN ONE EXPECT WHEN WORKING OUT AT YOUR STUDIO?
When working out at Breathe-Berlin studio one can expect movement in a bright garden spot without the look of a fitness gym. We’re offering a feel good atmosphere, motivated experts, the highest level of attention to our clients and homemade lemonade.
We work traditionally. As flow is key in Classical Pilates one can expect that the workout in our studio is dynamic, according the fitness level of a person, the daily mood or goal of the session. One can expect very pure Pilates. First of all, to scoop, belly in!
