Interview with the Pilates Instructor Ashlee Carignan
We had the opportunity to do an interview about Pilates with Ashlee Carignan, maybe more known for Pilates with Ashlee (PWA).
Ashlee, started her first studio three years ago in Beverlywood, Los Angeles. Her interest for Pilates dates way back. You may have read about her Pilates program PWA in Huffington Post or on any other top USA platforms.
In this interview she shares her view on Pilates and much more.
My life motto as a female entrepreneur is that when times get tough I remind myself that “failure is nothing more than the chance to revise your strategy” and SUCCESS is the sum of small efforts repeated day after day. You can’t give up when the going gets tough, I’m sure a lot of you can relate as studio owners, it’s no joke!
You just have to step away from what’s frustrating and you re-strategize and come back to it when you’re ready.
I truly believe people don’t start and/or finish something because they don’t know how. Find the tools, maybe a mentor, research, whatever it is and go get what YOU WANT!
Right now, I am extra curious about aromatherapy. I have been studying Essential Oils for the last couple years and finally decided in 2020 I’d study to become a certified Aromatherapist and I’m ecstatic to say, I passed!
It’s an amazing complement to Pilates and has been thriving since I introduced it to my services earlier this year. I love researching & making customized blends for my clients that help with their ailments, stress and/or depression, muscle spasms, skin conditions, and so much more! I’ve seen these blends 100% work every time and it blows me away.
I’d love to offer one of my favorite recipes that is appropriate for the unfortunate pandemic the world is currently going through. This recipe can be safely used anywhere to completely sanitize & kill any bacteria/viruses, it’s called: THIEVE’S BLEND. Dating back to the bubonic plague, interestingly it got its name from thieve’s robbing the victim’s of the plague. They would drench a head wrap in this blend therefore never getting sick.
In a 8oz bottle blend:
- 20 drops Clove Bud Oil
- 15 Lemon Essential Oil
- 10 Cinnamon Bark Oil
- 10 Eucalyptus Oil
- 5 Rosemary Oil
To me a beautiful body and person comes from within. Beauty is about being comfortable in your own skin, finding the confidence to except what you’ve been given and own it! We as woman are sadly always comparing ourselves to one another. However, what we don’t know is what the other person is thinking or agonizing over. This is a reminder that you are more than your appearance!
Pilates to me isn’t just about a series of exercises to create a long, lean body, it’s so much more than that. It’s about perfecting the complete coordination of the mind, body and soul. When I started Pilates 15 years ago, it not only helped shaped my body but the practice helped change my attitude, challenged me, and ultimately made me believe anything you truly want in this world is achievable!
When it comes to Pilates wear it’s hard for me to find athleisure wear that fits my body type. I’ve got a little extra booty and a small waist so leggings rarely fit me perfectly (I know I’m not alone here).
Pilates moves that I really like are plank to pikes, scooter kicks, chest opener, and “hard abs”exercises.
In my opinion Pilates is such a good workout because it’s the complete coordination between the mind, body and soul. Not only does one get the physical benefits from Pilates such as: rehabilitation, stronger core leading to less back issues, flexibility, etc. but you also get the mental perks! It’s not just a workout, it’s a lifestyle and you start leading your life with the principles of Pilates in mind.
My studio is called Pilates With Ashlee, branded PWA is a chic-boutique studio. We pride ourselves on creating a friendly, intimate environment where anyone can come and feel great about themselves. We have no type here, we train everyone!
When it comes to Pilates events, I had a few gigs lined up for my newly PMA certified workshop: Behind the Hustle: Business Tools for Fitness Professionals but unfortunately due to Covid-19 they were cancelled.
I’m currently re-strategizing to offer my workshop online. If anyone is interested in learning more about this “one of kind” workshop, please reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org. My workshop is also completely customizable with a high influence on Social Media and how it can enhance your business/brand.
Three reasons why you should do Pilates is first of all because we have one body and we should ALL take care of it! Pilates is one of the most stimulating workouts, it never gets boring because the exercises are endless. Secondly it is so much fun and gratifying and thirdly because it helps the longevity of feeling good. As we age our flexibility among other things go down hill, Pilates will help keep your body healthy and limber!
